The Delaware Valley Scale Modelers'
2008 Favorite Five Contest

Bobby Cicconi's U.S.S. Pennsylvania, 1945

My U.S.S. Pennsylvania was built up from the 1/700 scale Dragon kit, which gives you the option of making it any time between 1943 and 1945. I chose to make her as she was in 1945.

I had to add additional radars, change the scout plane from a Kingfisher to the SC-1 Seahawk (that came from Trumpeter). Also, there was a twin 40mm gon on the bridge front, in place of a gun director.

I used Gold Medal Models ultra fine railings, Niko quad and twin 40mm guns, Paper Lab twin 5" 38 secondary guns, and scratchbuilt the mainmast. I used various photo etched radars and Tom's Model Works for the big antennas that go on the front top. I used Gold Medal Models single 20mm guns (there were 53 of them!) and a Gold Medal aircraft catapult.

Stretched sprue was used to rig it, and I used cellu-clay painted with acrylic artist's paints and gloss clear gel for the water. WEM paints were used for the measure 21, overall Navy Blue color scheme.
